Finalized at last!!

Today we went before the judge in Auburn, NY, near Syracuse. He finalized the adoption for good--after signing off, he suggested I "might want to re-consider my estate planning" now. David and I were beaming, and I had a chance to rave about how superbly David and I are faring together down in the big bad city. It felt really good, I have to say, to present us together as a very happy gay family; it felt totally normal. But it must surely appear to some as the strangest damned thing they could imagine. Happy queers, even now, must surely give some people the creeps. I think of it as our quiet triumph, to be happy without being one of them. (I'm thinking of my father.... who has probably never even heard of David.... ) Anyway, it's been a good day in the Whitaker family. Mazeltov.
